Why should I eat beef? Not only does it taste good, beef is also a great way to fuel your body. In the American diet, beef is the number one contributor of protein, zinc and vitamin B12, number two of vitamin B6, and number three of iron and niacin. By supplying a nutrient bundle in every bite, eating beef is a great way to make your calories count. A 3 oz. serving of lean beef contributes less than 10% of the calories in a 2,000-calorie diet. At the same time, it supplies more than 10% of the Daily Value for these nutrients.

What is “Natural” beef ? The USDA definition of “Natural” is "minimally processed, no artificial ingredients, USDA permits no preservatives in the product". Greener Pastures Beef takes this a step further by using no antibiotics or added hormones in the production of our beef. The USDA permits these production claims, which refer to cattle management practices before harvesting. |
What are some of the health benefits of eating grass-fed, grain-finished beef? Grass fed, grain finished beef is rich in Vitamin A (Beta-Carotine), Vitamin E (Alpha-Tacopherol, a primary anti-oxidant), Omega 3 & 6 (Polyunsaturated) , Conjugated Linoleic Acid (Polyunsaturated). |
Where do the cattle come from? Our cattle come from our family ranches located in Colwich and Haven, Kansas. |
What type of cattle do you raise? We primarily raise Angus and Limousin cattle. |
How long do you age your beef? Greener Pastures Beef is "dry aged" for a minimum of 14 days to give it the most desirable taste. Dry aging is hanging the product in a cooler right after harvest with the temperature set right above freezing. |
|
What is "Dry Aged?"
All beef is aged to naturally tenderize the meat and enhance beef flavor. Beef is aged either by wet or dry methods. Wet aging is far more common and occurs in vacuum bags under refrigerated temperatures. Most beef you buy at your local grocer uses the wet aging process. Dry aging is not as widespread, and is a more complex method done under dry conditions. It is a more “high-end” method, creating tender cuts of beef with distinct flavors and aromas. |
|
What does “Source Verified” mean? Source Verified is a technical beef industry term referring to the ability to provide the entire history of every head, from birth (including its pedigree) to the time it is prepared, packaged and sold as steaks and other beef cuts. This means we know our beef has never been given hormones or antibiotics, and always meets our quality standards.
|
Should I be concerned about "Mad Cow" Disease? Cattle produced by Greener Pastures Beef never consume bovine muscle, nerve, or bone tissue of any kind (the practice believed to have caused "Mad Cow" Disease in Europe). USDA and FDA restrictions designed to prevent the occurrence of the disease in this country are strictly enforced. These restrictions are also strictly observed by Greener Pastures Beef. |
|
What is the difference between grass fed and grain – fed/finished? Distinct flavor is the difference with a grain-fed / finished steer. We raise Greener Pastures Beef cattle exclusively on our Kansas pastures, in the unhurried, natural way... fed on rich, nutritious grasses and grain fed to finish for flavor and tenderness. Greener Pastures Beef tastes extra flavorful because it comes from free-range cattle. Our humane treatment and care in their handling assure you beef of excellence!
Greener Pastures grain-finished beef cattle spend most of their lives in our pasture feeding on forage (grass). At 12 to 14 months of age, our cattle are moved to a smaller pasture closer to home where they receive a carefully balanced diet. This feeding period typically lasts between 130 and 150 days.
